Welcome to the first article of tactical airsoft, the first article will be discussing the basic meaning of particular wording used within the game play zone. The main confusion is with the word squad and fire team, so tactical airsoft will be describing the difference between both words even though they go together. At the end of the page an easy understandable diagram will be displayed.
What is a squad?
A squad is composed of nine (9) members, and the following positions are within a squad:
- 1 Squad Leader
- 2 Team leaders
- 2 Riflemen
- 2 Grenadiers
- 2 Automatic Rifleman
It is important to note how balanced a squad is, behind this setup there is a simple reason. Having a balanced squad means that the squad can easily separate into two (2) firing teams which will be lead by the two (2) team leaders within the squad whilst the two (2) team leaders will be getting orders from the squad leader. The remaining members of the squad will respond to the orders of their team leaders (obviosuly the squad leader has the ability to impose orders on all the squad members).

What are firing teams?
Firing teams are the same members that compose a squad, one (1) member of each category will have his own team which will compose a fire team of four (4) squad members each, ending with a total of two (2) fire teams and a squad leader. This technique is used in order to be able to more effectively use the fire and maneuver tactic (discussed later in the tactical airsoft). This method prevents a whole squad from getting pinned down in one location since they will be spread out and every member knows what is his role (roles will be discussed later in the tactical airsoft).
A fire team consits of the following members:
- Team leader
- Rifleman
- Automatic Rifleman
- Grenadier
